As a fellowship-trained specialist in orthopaedic sports medicine, Dr. Vega cares for athletes at all levels of competition. He specializes in arthroscopic and minimally invasive treatment of various injuries to the shoulder, knee, and elbow, in addition to cartilage disorders.

Dr. Vega completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine after obtaining his undergraduate degree in Bioengineering at Rice University. He later completed an internship and orthopaedic residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. While at Texas Tech University, he served on the Orthopaedic Resident Selection Committee. After his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Vega elected to pursue additional training in the care of athletes, and completed a sports medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.  Dr. Vega is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

During fellowship, Dr. Vega had the privilege of serving as an assistant to the team physicians of the Texans, Rockets, Dynamo, and Astros as well as collegiate, high school, and recreational athletes. Dr. Vega is currently the head team physician for the Brazosport Exporters and Brazoswood Buccaneers. Dr. Vega has also been active in the research of knee and hip biomechanics. In 2007, his research team achieved The Frank Stinchfield Award from The Hip Society for work on the biomechanics of the hip labrum and the stability of the hip. In 2015, he had a paper published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine from his research on meniscal and ACL injuries.
